What we are looking at

Start with the everyday issues.

Rowley Mead

Parking and access to bays

Further photographs have been gathered around Rowley Mead. Residents report pavement obstruction and parking positions that prevent use of the bay opposite. The council has been asked to assess pedestrian access, sight lines and practical parking improvements.

Woodside

Room to walk and see safely

Photographs show vehicles occupying paved pedestrian routes. Residents report difficulty passing and restricted junction visibility, including around Woodside and Duck Lane. Remaining accessible pavement width and sight lines need a site assessment.

Across Thornwood

A wider community conversation

Nearby junctions and local planning concerns can also be raised. Each issue needs its own location, evidence and clear request for the responsible authority.

Beyond parking

Local concerns. A shared place to start.

Thornwood Roots can bring together issues raised by residents, document their impact and identify a practical next step. These are areas we can cover; individual cases will be added as reports and evidence are reviewed.

01 · Roads and safety

Safer journeys for everyone

Parking, speeding concerns, junction visibility, pavement access and crossing difficulties.

Council email sent · Evidence gathering continues
02 · Planning and development

Understand proposed changes

Specific planning applications, residents’ concerns and evidence about potential local impacts. Each case will include its application reference and verified deadlines.

Further cases to be reviewed
03 · Village upkeep

Look after shared surroundings

Litter, fly-tipping, overgrown paths, lighting faults and drainage problems, with precise locations and dated observations.

Resident reports welcome
04 · Community facilities

Make room for community life

Shared spaces, activities, services and practical suggestions for improving village life.

Ideas to be gathered

How each concern becomes a case

Location → observation or resident report → supporting evidence → impact → requested action.

Confirmed facts and resident reports will be labelled separately. Updates will record the authority contacted, any response and the next step. Identifying details will be reviewed before publication.

The approach

A strong case starts
with the facts.

We distinguish what an image shows from what someone reports. A parked vehicle alone does not establish its owner, purpose or how long it has been there.

Evidence is retained for council review. Vehicle photographs are not shared on this website at this stage.

01 Identify the exact location and time.
02 Describe the obstruction or visibility concern.
03 Keep original photos and separate observations from reports.
04 Ask for a site visit, measured assessment and written response.
Evidence guide

Make your observation useful.

Record the nearest house number or junction, the date and time, and what you could actually see. For repeated problems, make a separate entry for each observation.

Useful details include remaining pavement space, the direction of a blocked view, and whether someone had to change their route. Do not guess vehicle ownership or speed.

Take photos from a safe position. Keep originals. Share only the personal details needed to explain the issue.

Prepare an evidence note

This tool formats a note on your device. It does not send, upload or store evidence.

Progress, openly shared

Small steps.
A clear record.

This page will record confirmed developments as the initiative takes shape.

Council email sent — further evidence gathered

The parking and access concerns have been raised by email with the council. Additional photographic evidence has been brought together for Rowley Mead and Woodside, including a nine-photograph Rowley Mead pack.

Access for pedestrians, residents and emergency vehicles

Residents report pavement obstruction, reduced visibility and difficulty using an opposite parking bay. A resident also reports that a fire engine attending the recent scrapyard fire struggled to reach the scene because of parking along Duck Lane. This emergency-access account has not been independently verified.

What happens next

Keep recording exact locations, dates, times and the practical effect of each obstruction. Confirm photo details, follow up the council email and seek a site assessment and written response. Any confirmed response or meeting date will be recorded here.

Photographs document vehicle positions. Capture dates and times are still being confirmed; they do not establish vehicle ownership or an offence.

Initial parking briefing prepared

The first briefing brought photographs and resident reports into an evidence log, with requests for pedestrian access and visibility assessments.

About this initiative

Thornwood Roots is being developed as an independent initiative by a Thornwood resident. The aim is to keep local issues easy to understand, bring evidence together and help residents approach the right authority with clear, documented requests. Future group arrangements are still being discussed.

This is an independent resident initiative. It is not a council service and does not claim to represent every resident.
